In the column, I indicated that Great Dane breeders had entered a new phase: They were pursuing the "Apollo" analogy beyond the perfection of youth and beautyy--their Danes also had to live up to the many other virtues of the god Apollo, including his vitality, athleticism, mentality, and intelligence--and boy have they succeeded! The many AKC companion events now available have encouraged our Daneites to reach even greater achievements than they imagined possible. Whether in obedience, tracking, agility, rally, or therapy certification, a great number of our breed now have these multiple titles, and many are reaching even further into nontraditional activities such as weight pulling, flyball, and even dock diving. "A young mantle Dane, Chroma Three Times Charmed, TD, RN, recently beat her own world record--jumping 18 feet in dock diving! This versatile Dane is also a Canine Good Citizen and is Therapy Dog...certified. She is owned by the very talented trainer Terri Mathias. ORION OWNS 2 BREED FIRSTS: FIRST DANE WITH AN AKC "FAST" AGILITY TITLE AND FIRST DANE TO ACHIEVE THE RALLY ADVANCED TITLE! HE ACHIEVED HIS CD BEFORE HE WAS TWO--& AT SIX IS STILL RUNNING AGILITY. Click on his photo for his own page--great photos there to see. ================================ Champion CHROMA A Kiss for Luck, CD, CGC, aka FRENCHIE has titled offspring, includind a Champion daughter with major pointed get. Frenchie herself easily finished HER CHAMPIONIONSHIP ALL OWNER HANDLED! Frenchie took her minors on family "vacation days," and then, in about a month, found two 4 pt majors to finish handily. She then went on to do obedience........ ...and CHAMPION FRENCHIES FINISHED HER CD THE FIRST OF AUGUST WITH A 193.5~! She was highest scoring Dane in an all-breed trial in fact on her first outing, then took a Third placement out of nine, and then a Second of 15 with a score of 193.5 to finish her CD in Novice B. CHROMA Chemnin de Fer, CGC, aka Jewel (shown above) was pointed, CHIC certified and was hoping to finish (her Championsship), but was side-lined from conformation competition by a chronic tail injury that required her to be docked upon her return to her breeder and has now been retired to a private home. She is a happy home companion.. CHROMA I'll Draw Again aka Matisse is a loving friend to his family and a happy camper, and CHROMA Operation Overlord aka Gunner still takes directions from his older merle pal, Picabo's sister Newt<G> (his auntie), but has his own ideas these days. This is the PICABO litter: born March of 2002.

We had just the one littler from Frenchie, the 2005 "French Fries"--look here to see them.. Rosie, Charm, Orion, & Frenchie all went on to title. The merle boys Matisse & Gunner and sister Jewel were content to be just "BC" titled as Gunner's owner put it: "Beloved Companion"--a nice title indeed! And last, but not least, Picabo herself is still, as a veteran, was out gaining titles in all venues (agility, rally and obedience) with her Junior Handler Joseph Whitehouse.
