Health Checks

Tia gave me eleven years and eleven months of joy, happiness and good luck, nevermind she gave me a 1000 firsts, bests and lasts, along with a cornucopia of talented offspring; now four generations worth of joy to many. Never ill a day in her life and bothered by no health issues but a little arthritis those last few winter months, we said goodbye to her when her years finally began to weigh heavily on her.

Dam (or granddam) of the dogs listed below, CH/CD Tia was Specialty major ptd. from the puppy classes & also won various Best Puppy & Sweeps awards before she was a year old. She started out by winning with me on the lead her first time in the ring as a baby in the 6-9 mo. at a Specialty (under Dr. Sophia no less), and went on to go WB or RWB all that weekend. She also went BOS Sweeps that day to a dog of Lorraine Rainwaters (Mr.) who I believe finished that day. She then went to the big Tucson Specialty and proceeded to "repeat that feat" going WB, Best Puppy and BOS in Sweeps at 9 mo. for a major win with Dick and Cathy Schaefer helping me get oriented. Jill Ferrara's Woody was the WD that needed to cross over to finish, and Jill was gracious enough to thank me after I handled my in-season<G>baby in Breed. I handled her mostly to the rest of her wins and she finished at Kachina while one of my mentor's bitches (the Zarlin's Pepper) went breed and into the Group that same day. So many wonderful memories!

At home she was working to become that dual-ring dog I envisioned as the basis of my working Dane kennel. Tia was a certified, working TDI Therapy Dog as of her first birthday, an AKC breed (conformation) Champion before her second birthday, and finished her Companion Dog (obedience) title in three entries, with three first places, ending with a 195 & highest scoring Working Dog for a Group win, and was ranked in the Top Ten Danes for Obedience for nearly two years. She received the honor of the Versatility Award from the GDCA in 1998. She became a coveted Venerable Dane in 2005. She worked most all her life, showing into her veteran years, as well as keeping up her therapy dog activities alongside her children and grandchildren. She was the benevolent dictator of the ChromaDane pack for more than a decade. Tia was moreover a typical dane: wonderful with people of all ages & kind to all animals.

She was bred twice, both times to Champion Harlequin males, and produced from both multiple titled offspring including two Specialty Best in Show Champions, a Hall of Fame son, a Utility Titled son, multiple specialty High In Trial offspring, and several kids and grandkids who have achieve breed firsts of various kinds. We're happy to add she was not only OFA hip clear & thyroid normal (at 10 years, 10 months!), but OFA Cardiac clear (and tested as a veteran). All her children (grandchildren, etc.) of ours (see below) also are CHIC-certified: they are tested (& cleared normal) for hip, heart, thyroid & eyes; & all are titled as well.

Tia is a Fraser daughter from a major-pointed Rox/Sugar daughter: BISS CH Fraser of Michaeldane N'CO x Michaeldane JayBee Rox Ann Dgn. Tia was bred by Jodie Keim, Michael Chiles & Trudy Muller. We are forever grateful for the Great Dane they entrusted us with in selling us Tia! I came from Europe in 1991 with no Danes of my own but big dreams for what my own Danes would look and act like. Thanks to great bitches like Tia and being able to stand on the shoulders of giants in this breed, I've been able to make myself a start at what mattered so much to me, to produce a heirloom kennel of working style Danes: Danes that are structurally secure, mentally able & correct in type; Danes that can endure, oblige & look beautiful while doing it.
